  • Monteverde Coffee Tour & Hanging Bridges start early departing from Guanacaste, you will pass by the cities of Liberia and Bagaces before turning with direction to Tilaran, one of the windiest cities in Guanacaste and Costa Rica. From this point we will drive for about 1.5 hours by the grave road.

At your arrival you will visit the Monteverde Hanging Bridges that will take you to a complex that use suspension bridges for a more tranquil introduction of the flora and fauna of the forest canopy, constructed within the cloud forest.

It allows a vision of the forest from a different perspective which starts with a walk on the ground taking you up to explore the treetops, a hardly discovered habitat, called the “canopy” with a naturalist guide.

Monteverde Hanging Bridges span canyons and drainage’s and bring visitors face to face with the upper level of the forest canopy. There are five bridges in total, the longest of which spans around 984 feet.

The trails extend for slightly over a mile and a half (2.5 km), making this tour extremely feasible for anyone in moderate shape.

The climb is not strenuous or muddy, as the trails are well maintained and generally very flat. Local guides accompany each tour and help visitors learn about native plant and animal species.

Is ideal for professors, students, researchers, naturalists, whole families, and the public in general, the climb is not strenuous or muddy, as the trails are well maintained and generally very flat. Local guides accompany each tour and help visitors learn about native plant and animal species.

At Monteverde Coffee Tour you will learn about the ways that the coffee cherries are picked, the lifestyle of the workers that carry out this task, their stories and the immigration that occurs during the harvest season.

When the coffee cherries are ready to be picked (from November through to February) this activity can be performed by the visitors.

At Monteverde Coffee Tour will get to see the way the pulp of the coffee cherry was traditionally removed, the washing process of the mucilage that is found underneath the pulp and the separation of the first class coffee beans from the rest.

In the warehouse the coffee beans are stored in big, fiber sacks allowing the beans to breathe and complete their aging process.  The selection of coffee beans, the roasting process and the final packaging of the Don Juan coffee is also carried out here.

Also you will get the option to take a ride in a typical ox cart experiencing the exact way our ancestors use to travel. On returning to the main building you will get the opportunity to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee accompanied by a typical Costa Rican snack.

Monteverde  Coffee Tour & Hanging Bridges ends by the afternoon and if is possible we will stop to see the hummingbirds garden, before heading back to Guanacaste.
