Snorkeling Bat Islands Tour (Islas Murciélago) is truly an experience like no other. The Islands are part of the Santa Rosa National Park, this is a rocky archipelago that enjoys an extraordinary variety of fauna and marine life.

Snorkeling Bat Islands Tour takes approximately 60 to 70 minutes from Playas del Coco, throughout the navigation you will be able to observe the incredible landscapes of the national park. It is possible to have dolphins company us along the way. During the season it might also be possible to observe humpback whales.

Once in the archipelago, you will discover the amazing underwater life and the colorful fish species, you can also see turtles, mantas, and other marine life. The hike on the island is not allowed to protect the endemic ecosystem. Later we will navigate in the direction of Witch’s Rock, you will also observe Playa Naranjo & Nancite, important beaches for the turtle nestin.

You will end your trip by visiting some of the beaches of the Papagayo Gulf. You will have the chance to visit some of its white-sand beaches and enjoy some snorkeling time. For safety and due to the strong winds that run during the months of December to April, Snorkeling Bat Islands Tour runs only during the months of May to November, months during which the navigation and visibility conditions for snorkeling or diving are optimal.​

Witch’s Rock Surf Trips

Witch’s Rock Surf Trips (Roca Bruja) depart from Playas del Coco, Guanacaste, every day if we have good weather and surfing conditions in the area. Our boat El Corso, is a Boston Whaler 28ft, with twin 225 Yamaha, toilet, and freshwater shower. The ride to the Santa Rosa National Park where Roca Bruja is located takes around 45 minutes. Once at Witch’s Rock, you will enjoy some of the best world-class waves the spot offers.

Witch’s Rock Surf Trips takes you to enjoy its left and right breaks with a sandy bottom; best surfed at mid/high tide and has offshore winds from December through March but with excellent swells during the year. Witch’s Rock is not a beginner’s surf trip.  Access to Witches Rock is only by boat as the road from the Santa Rosa National Park is closed to the public.

Witch’s Rock is located right in front of Playa Naranjo at Santa Rosa National Park which besides offers you a world-class surf spot that protects the oldest tropical dry forest in Costa Rica.  As well as Playa Naranjo and Nancite are two of the most important beaches for olive ridley turtles in the world. Certainly, this is the dream spot for many surfers around the world, its waves, its natural beauty, the rock, the landscapes, everything in Witch’s Rock is magic.  The best time to surf is during the rising tide

We also offer you Ollie’s Point; is best surfed at low/mid tide and has a sandy, reef bottom for all types of surfers. Ollie’s Point is one of the most northern points on the west coast of Costa Rica with a world-class break. Witch’s Rock Surf Trips departs early morning from  Playas del Coco. If you are in Tamarindo, Flamingo, Playa Grande, or some other location you must be at 7:00 am at Playas del Coco.

Santa Rosa National Park and Junquillal Wildlife Refuge

Santa Rosa National Park & Junquillal Wildlife Refuge in Guanacaste are two amazing destinations where you will learn about the nature and history of Costa Rica. At Santa Rosa National Park learn about our history, the tropical dry forest, and its flora and fauna. In Junquillal relax in this beautiful bay without waves. Here is normal to see white-faced monkeys, raccoons, coatimundis, and other animals.

At Santa Rosa National Park we will take you into a review of the history of Costa Rica. The Santa Rosa National Park is the place where Costa Rican fight in a battle for their land against the Filibusters invaders commanded by William Walker in March 1856.  The remains of the battle are there as an ancient witness of the local history.

Santa Rosa National Park preserves one of the last remains of tropical dry forests in Latin America. You will admire a great variety of flora and fauna residents in the area. You could observe spiders and howler monkeys, deer, raccoons, and some other animals. 

Later will drive you to the beautiful Junquillal Natural Refuge. A pristine refuge with an excellent beach to swim and relax. Junquillal Wildlife Refuge is a beautiful place to see many birds such as brown pelicans, and frigate birds, which nest in the park. Other birds you can find are Ibis, kingfishers, egrets, eagles, cormorants, and sandpipers.

Besides these bird species, you could observe iguanas, monkeys, deer, lizards, coatimundis, and other animals can be found in Junquillal Wildlife Refuge. Here you will enjoy a beachfront BBQ Lunch.
